The Surface Pro 4 is not the only laptop replacement that Microsoft will have on its line of devices this year as it unveiled on Tuesday a new laptop.
Called the Surface Book, this Microsoft laptop device was said to be designed "for scientists, engineers and gamers who need a lot more performance than a tablet," Khaleej Times reported.
"We make things that help you make things," CEO Satya Nadella said in the Time report.
It was noted that the newly introduced gadget is a "high-powered laptop" with a 13.5-inch detachable screen, Windows 10 operating system and equipped with Intel's i5 and i7 processors.
According to Time, the Surface Book is Microsoft's answer to Apple's Macbook Pro while the Surface Pro 4 takes on the Macbook Air.
The laptop has a retail price of $1,499 and is now available for pre-order though the model will come out later this month. This is a bit pricier than the $899 tag of the Surface Pro 4.
In addition, Wired explained that the Microsoft laptop also carries a "killer display" which can be converted to a very useful tablet when needed.
"It is a shot across the bow of Microsoft's OEM partners," said Forrester Research principal analyst J.P. Gownder.
The company also denied that there is a "collision" on the Surface line of products with this laptop release.
"It's positioned as a laptop, very squarely against the MacBook Pro as an example. But that could also be extended to a Dell XPS 13 or an HP x360," explained Moor Insights & Strategy president Patrick Moorhead in the Wired report.
He also noted that this is a strategy from Microsoft to take on bigger companies like Apple.
"Right now Microsoft really believes that it has to have a combined hardware, software, and services play to go up against the likes of Apple. That's why it's doing this. That's why it's taking such an aggressive stance now, moving to laptops," Moorhead added.
Aside from the Surface Book, the Surface Pro 4 also received much attention from the public during its unveiling.
Time said the device had a 12.3-inch display and runs on Windows 10. It is also considered as "the thinnest and lightest Microsoft's ever made," following the successful release of the Surface pro 3.
Aside from these lightweight features, the tablet is also believed to be 30 percent more powerful than the previous release.
On the other hand, TechCrunch mentioned that that it will also pack a developed screen with 267 PPI which supports over 5 million pixels.
"Microsoft revamped its stylus and Type cover. The stylus will now contain a year's worth of battery life and snap to the edge of the device. The Type cover will have a chiclet-style keyboard," explained the same report.
The Surface Pro 4 will be made available on Oct. 26.
