The 2013 NBA Draft was nothing short of spectacular as teams pulled off surprising moves that certainly rattled the NBA landscape on Thursday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Arguably the most unpredictable draft in recent history, the Cleveland Cavaliers kicked off the selection process with a bang after selecting UNLV Rebels forward Anthony Bennett with the first overall pick in this year's draft.

Bennett's selection was considered a stunner after several scouting reports indicated that Kentucky center Nerlens Noel and Maryland's big man Alex Len were the favorites to land at no.1. Bennett, who averaged 16 points and 8 rebounds in his lone season with the Rebels, became the first Canadian to be selected first overall in the history of the NBA Draft.

The Orlando Magic used their no.2 overall pick for Indiana guard Victor Oladipo, adding another solid young player to their rebuilding efforts. Meanwhile, the Washington Wizards picked Georgetown forward Otto Porter to round up the top-3 selections in the draft.

Aside from selecting NBA prospects, the draft also produced several player movements, including two blockbusters trades.

  • Boston Celtics sent Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Kris Humphries, Gerald Wallace, Keith Bogans, Tornike Shengelia, Reggie Evans, and three future first round picks (2014, 2016, and 2018)
  • The New Orleans Pelicans sent no.6 overall pick Nerlens Noel and 2014 first round pick to Philadelphia 76ers for All-Star point guard Jrue Holiday and 42nd overall pick Pierre Jackson
  • Denver Nuggets sent Kosta Koufos to the Memphis Grizzlies for Darrell Arthur and the 55th overall pick Jeffrey Lauvergne

The 2013 NBA Drafts marked the last time David Stern heads the draft pick ceremonies as he retires from his post as NBA commissioner.
