Former New York Knicks player Stephon Marbury slammed NBA legend Michael Jordan for his expensive line of footwear noting that the icon has been "robbing the hood."
Prior to the release of his affordable shoe line "Starbury," Marbury took social media to compare the prices of his shoes ($15) and that of Jordan's ($70 to $220).
"Jordan has been robbing the hood since. Kids dying for shoes and the only face this dude makes is I don't care. The time will change!" Marbury posted on his Twitter account.
He also explained that someone has to step up "in our culture for our culture" and it can be him.
"I'm just trying to create access for all. Sadly people hate the idea because others will have. Real people know. I'm off the kids getting killed for Jordan's. I hate that this dude won't change that. Greedy!" he added.
The Beijing Ducks guard also noted that the sales of Jordan's footwear is due to "people so caught up in the greatness of his play that they lost their way."
"It's not about the shoes it's about the thought," added Marbury.
In an Instagram post, he added that his very affordable shoes was launched "to change in the sneaker game."
"This is about creating access for all for all the struggling parents for all the people who can't afford the high price sneakers and clothes. There are more people at the bottom of the pyramid then the top. Not everyone can afford 150-200 dollar sneakers. We have stepped in to take on this task in providing that gateway for all of the struggling parents, woman and men," he mentioned in his caption.
A similar Sydney Morning Herald report noted that Marbury completed 13 seasons in the NBA and played for teams like Minnesota Timberwolves, New Jersey Nets, Phoenix Suns, Knicks and Boston Celtics.
In 2006, he launched his "Starbury" line but it was not successful and ended in 2009. His shoes were reportedly the alternative to Jordan's Nike line.
"Home boy your paying 200 for Jordan's and they make them for 5 dollars. The shoes are made in China in the same places. Stay calm we coming!" he added.
Now that a new shoe design of the "Starbury" is set to be released, the player has been very visible on social media explaining that his shoes are affordable and has great quality compared to extremely expensive ones.
Bleacher Report said Marbury also noted that Jordan is just like everyone else, the only difference is that he can shoot balls better.
"The grammar police are out. He's just like us. All he can do is shoot a ball better than everyone. Lol," he added.
