DC Universe's "Suicide Squad" is set to bring The Joker in the big screen with a new light as portrayed by Jared Leto who earned Will Smith's commendation for his "full-on" approach to the character.

There is no question on The Joker's reputation when it comes to facing heroes like the Batman, but the actor portraying him seems to make the difference.

While he did not know Leto personally, Smith commended his co-star's commitment to his role.

""I've never actually met Jared Leto. We worked together for 6 months and we've never exchanged a word outside of 'Action!' and 'Cut!' We've never said 'Hello' or 'Good day.' I've only ever spoken to him with me as Deadshot and him as The Joker," Smith told Zane of Apple's Beats 1 radio show.

According to the "Men in Black" star, he had literally never met Leto personally and that the two of them had never exchanged casual conversation behind the camera.

"So, the first time I see him will be 'Hey, Jared. What's up?' Not a single word exchanged off-camera. He was all in on the Joker," Smith continued.

This was not the only proof of Leto's dedication to his role considering how he treated his "Suicide Squad" co-stars.

In fact, Adam Beach, who plays Slipnot in the film told E! News in July about Leto's gift choices which can be considered peculiar if it would be considered from a fellow actor but completely ordinary if you think of them as presents from the actual Clown Prince of Crime.

"He sent [Margot Robbie who plays Harley Quinn] a nice love letter with a black box with a rat in it -- a live rat. It was beautiful. Then he sent bullets to Will [Smith] with a letter," Beach revealed, adding that the presents arrive whenever Leto was not around during the beginning of the filming.

"Basically, what he said was, 'Guys, I can't be there, but I want you to know I'm doing my work as hard as you guys.' The video he showed is in character. It blew our minds away. Then we realized that day, this is real," he added, referring to a video of a 'dead hog' from Leto.

Leto succeeds the late Heath Ledger who portrayed The Joker in the 2008 film "The Dark Knight" directed by Christopher Nolan.

The "Suicide Squad," which would hit the theaters on August 5, 2016 stars Leto, Robbie, Smith, Beach, Cara Delevingne, Jai Courtney, Viola Davis, Scott Eastwood, Jay Hernandez and Ben Affleck as The Batman.
