Kingdom Hearts 3 is one of the more obscure games that has been confirmed for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and while not much is known about the game so far series director Tetsuya Nomura gave some details about the game as well as the potential for more HD remakes of past games in the series.
Nomura, speaking to Japanese website Weekly Famitsu, revealed that the Keyblade players will have multiple transformations that players will be able to mess around with. Nomura in particular was excited about what these Keyblade transformations will bring to the game:
"You saw it turn into a gun form in the teaser video, but there's also an unbelievable transformation as well. The other day when checking it, the staff told me, 'it turns into XXX' to which I just blurted out, 'Seriously!?'"
It is unclear what XXX is suppose to stand for, but whatever it is has the director very excited and looking forward to bringing the game to the fans of the series.
In addition to revealing a little bit about Kingdom Hearts 3, Nomura also discussed one game in particular in the Kingdom Hearts cannon. That game is Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance. This game is the only game in the series to not be included in either Kingdom Hearts 1.5 or 2.5 HD Remix, leading some to question what plans Square Enix and Disney have for the game. Nomura believes that Dream Drop Distance will have an HD remake, due to how important the game is to the events of Kingdom Heart 3:
"The HD remastered games are a summary leading up to KH III. It'd be sad for one chapter not to be in HD in remaking the series, plus KH3D is a necessary piece for telling the story of KH III, so I've been telling myself that we need to start considering it."
If Square Enix is serious about remake the game and putting it on consoles, they have many different options for release. They could include the game as an incentive for a possible mega-collection of Kingdom Hearts games. Another possibility is that the game is sold separately through the PlayStation Store, as the HD Remake games are only available on the PlayStation 3. Finally, the game could be tacked on to Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD Remake as DLC which players will have to buy separately.
