Sony's been on an update rampage recently, bringing many of its popular Xperia Z devices up to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. Luckily for Xperia SP owners, it looks Android 4.3 Jelly Bean isn't too far behind for them as well; it looks like beta testing for the firmware is underway.
Just a couple days after a firmware believed to be the Sony Xperia SP Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update was certified, an XDA Developer forum member from Hungary has come forth as a beta tester and posted pictures of his Xperia SP running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. The beta tester's version seems to be lower than the rumored official update that was spotted, hinting that it's most likely a test build. Still, the developments point to one thing: Android 4.3 Jelly Bean for the Xperia SP can't be too far off.
Sony recently updated the Xperia Z, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia ZL, and Xperia ZR to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. The Xperia SP update will most likely be similar in content, so here's what to expect: Sony's Smart Social Camera, a Stamina mode that extends battery life, the latest versions of all Sony apps, downloadable "Xperia Themes," and improved business enterprise software. All of this, of course, comes with the usual security and performance enhancements that a shiny new Android version brings.
Sony has revealed that it will begin upgrading devices in its lineup, including the Xperia SP, to Android 4.4 KitKat in 2014.
