Car owners can now easily stream music in their cars using the newest update of Spotify for Android.
According to Billboard, Spotify will be the first music streaming service on car dashboards using the the MirrorLink system, which is a standard in-dash platform for smartphones.
Spotify senior manager for automotive business development Jonathan Tarlton said that this innovation brings their service to where the users are.
"We're just getting started in going after the connected-car market, but really the time is right," Tarlton added.
The Spotify app for Android can now be accessed on MirrorLink using the new app called RockScout, "which makes Spotify and potentially other music apps compatible with MirrorLink standards for driver safety."
Explaining how it works, UberGizmo said users would need to download first RockScout to be able to use Spotify.
"To make the music apps work with the system RockScout uses Media Browser Service which is a standard API in Android. With support for MirrorLink apps are more driver-aware and can be controlled through rotary-knob and touch infotainment systems," added the same report.
But this process only works exclusively for Android users since MirrorLink systems are "limited to the Android platform."
"The whole concept is to give folks a more responsible way to use applications on their phone while driving," said MirrorLink developing team's Alan Ewing.
According to Engadget, this is another great way to avoid distractions while you are driving on the road, since it will keep users from changing songs while they are traveling on a highway.
"Working with MirroLink's entertainment systems means Spotify will be available for even more in-dash systems as it's already available on CarPlay and Android Auto," the same report noted.
Mobile Syrup noted that this may not be "a distraction-free solution," but recognized the fact that this will lessen the time that drivers will hold their phone while on the road.
Meanwhile, Android Authority noted that this development will surely "get the job done in terms of providing a fun Spotify vehicle experience" and encouraged car owners and drivers to download the needed applications to make this work.
Founded 9 years ago, Spotify has been making a name in the music streaming industry since it allows laptop, mobile and PC users to stream music for free online.
It also has a wide variety of playlists which can be sorted by artist, song title, release date and even mood.
"There are millions of tracks on Spotify. So whether you're working out, partying or relaxing, the right music is always at your fingertips. Choose what you want to listen to, or let Spotify surprise you," reads a description on its website.
Some music lovers have shifted to just streaming songs on this platform instead downloading or buying them.
