"Thor" star Tom Hiddleston revealed why Loki was not included in the "Avengers: Age of Ultron" film despite his character being one of the fan's favorite villains of all time.
In an interview with Digital Spy, Hiddleston explained that he filmed a Norn cave dream sequence for which is supposed to be dreamt by Thor. "I was part of the dream sequence for Thor in the film. I shot for a day and enjoyed it very much," he told the outlet while promoting his latest non-Marvel film "Crimson Peak."
According to Cinema Blend, the scene would show Heimdall confronting Thor who was convinced that Asgard is in grave trouble.
However, he later received a phone call from Marvel Studios executive Kevin Feige explaining that during test screenings, many members of the audience seemed to have 'over-emphasized' the villain's role in the film.
"They thought that [Loki] was controlling Ultron. It was actually imbalancing people's expectations so [Kevin Feige and Joss Whedon] said 'Let's cut is 'cause it's confusing people,'" he added.
In a previous report from the outlet, Whedon had described the film as "overstuffed" that the result paved the way to "too many voices in the chorus."
"We did shoot something, but it didn't play. The movie has so much. It's so filled. We didn't want it to feel overstuffed. I really wanted to have Loki in it... At some point the embarrassment of riches is actually embarrassing," Whedon told MTV.
Feige and Whedon would not want a single scene tip over the carefully woven Marvel Cinematic Universe and had to sacrifice one of their best villains. This, however, is "doubly confusing" says Cinema Blend considering that the second villain should have been the God of tricksters himself.
"It speaks to the weakness of both the story, as well as Ultron's effectiveness as a villain, if the audience thinks that an organic being like Loki could override the cold, machine logic of a supercomputer like Ultron," the outlet explained.
The outlet also noted that such an act also proves that Loki still remains the MCU's best villain to date.
As of the writing of this article, there is still no word on whether or not Odin's adopted son would remain in the MCU. In fact, even Hiddleston has no idea whether or not his famous portrayal of the God of Mischief would still be a part of the next phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
