The second season of "Gotham" becomes even more exciting as fans are speculating how Jerome Valeska, an insane teenager who debuted in the show's first season, may grow up to be The Joker.
According to Cinema Blend, the jail uniform-clad character played by Cameron Monaghan has piqued the audience's interest after having an impeccably similar aura to that of the Clown Prince of Crime. To set the record straight, showrunner Bruno Heller explains how the 22-year-old actor's character would fit into the entire Joker myth.
"We're going to be giving you concrete answers to his identity. That story is going to come to a huge and shocking resolution which will explain the whole Joker myth and how it began and how the Joker came to be," Heller told the Nerdist.
According to the outlet, Jerome Valeska was introduced as the leader of The Maniax, a new villain crew composed of psychopathic criminals who escaped from the Arkham Asylum. In the "Gotham" episode entitled "Knock, Knock," The Maniax introduced themselves to the authorities by showing firepower to the members of the Gotham City Police Department themselves.
To top it all off, the group decided to take Commissioner Essen portrayed by Zabryna Guevara hostage and broadcasted her murder to the entire city.
After opening big in the series, the young Clown Prince of Crime may not be able to continue further after the season's third episode. According to TV Line, Jerome Valeska, Barbara and billionaire industralist, Theo Galavan, put on quite a show for Bruce and the rest of the gang.
The episode picks off from Commissioner Essen's brutal murder, showing Jim and Harvey taking down doors and defeating thugs in the quest to locate the red-haired menace. During their probe, they find out that Jerome is the son of the blind fortune-teller Cicero, who is later killed by his own son after being framed for the escape of The Maniax from the asylum.
Fast forward to the show's climax, Jerome Valeska is seen bleeding, most probably to his death, on the same stage where he plotted for yet another sinister show.
As expected, Valeska's performance remained true to the season's subtitle, "Rise of the Villains." "The subtitle of this season is 'Rise of the Villains' and I'm so excited to roll out those big baddies," commented the executive producer.
He adds,"We've got some great ones coming up that is the nub of what makes the DC universe so great, those monsters and villains and the ever-increasing stakes they bring. I'm so excited about what we're about to do."
