Zack Snyder, who is currently working on the "Batman vs. Superman" film, has been discussing the possibility of a "Watchmen" TV series with HBO. According to Variety, HBO has confirmed the new series in the following statement:

"Preliminary discussions regarding 'Watchmen' have occurred but we have no additional information and no deals are in place."

From the network's statement, it is obvious that nothing about a "Watchmen" TV series is set in stone. Collider explains that HBO can be quite strict when it comes to developing a series. As of writing, nothing is completely sure until the network announces a hard release date.

Fans of the comics can be comforted to know that HBO will be looking for another hit series soon, since "Game of Thrones" is expected to end in a couple of years. "Watchmen" might just be the perfect series to put on the "Game of Thrones" time slot.

The Verge adds that with all of the superhero dramas coming out, like the variety of Marvel superheroes soon to come out on Netflix, HBO might want a superhero drama of its own to even the playing field.

For now fans will just have to wait, pray and hope that HBO will greenlight Snyder's proposal for a "Watchmen" TV series. While waiting, fans can contemplate all the possibilities for the series, if it does get the go signal.

According to the Collider, almost nothing is known about the potential TV series. It truly is just on its first stages as of now. There is still no writer and it remains uncertain if Snyder will actually helm the project.

If the "Dawn of Justice" director is up for the challenge once again, it will be interesting to see how he will juggle all of his other ongoing and future DC movies.

After all, Snyder is set to produce Gal Gadot's "Wonder Woman," which is expected to hit the big screen in 2017 and Jason Momoa's "Aquaman" which is slated to come out in 2018.

If Snyder does decide to try his hand in television, it is possible that he would try to re-adapt his ideas from his 2009 "Watchmen" movie. If that is the case, then fans can expect to see the Minutemen as well in the potential TV series.

If fans can recall, part of the reason Snyder's "Watchmen" movie did not do well is because there was simply too much material to adapt in a short amount of time.

With a TV series, however, there will be enough room to explore each individual character and their backgrounds. Of course, everything is just pure speculation until either HBO or Snyder releases information on the subject.
