Reports about George R.R. Martin revealing that there would be a "Game of Thrones" movie surfaced on Wednesday saying that the author had allegedly confirmed the rumor.
Because of its undeniable appeal to the small screen audience, entertainment outlets would report whatever is new about HBO's epic historical drama "Game of Thrones."
However, one outlet seemed to have taken it too far after reporting information from an "insider source" about Martin confirming that a movie about his "A Song of Ice and Fire" book series is in the works.
On September 27, Daily Star UK published an "exclusive" report claiming that the book series' author revealed that HBO is working on a movie about his novels.
"Speaking at the HBO afterparty, author Martin said he will not be involved in the film and that show writers David Benioff and DB Weiss will be in charge," the report claims.
According to the outlet, the author spilled the beans during the American TV network's celebratory event after the "Game of Thrones" won the "Best Original Drama Series" during the Emmys a couple of weeks ago.
"There will be a movie, but I will not be involved. I have too much to do. That is something HBO and the DB and David are dealing with. I have two more books to finish and I still have so much to do," the outlet quoted Martin saying.
"The pressure is on. I am such a slow writer and the fans get upset that I don't write faster," the report continued quoting him, adding that an insider told the outlet that the film would most probably go back in time which leaves room for the dead characters to reappear.
However, all these were debunked by the best-selling author himself saying that it was entirely fabricated.
"Yes, completely false. No one is working on any movie just now. And if there was a movie, it would not be about Robert's Rebellion," Martin responded to a comment on his Live Journal account.
Aside from the author's statement, several fans have also investigated if the report about the GoT movie was indeed based on facts.
"Reminder that any articles about a Game of Thrones movie you see currently are based on fake quotes from George R.R. Martin," fan-based site Watchers on the Wall posted over Twitter.
This was echoed by another fan-based Twitter profile @westerosorg, saying: "Reports that #GameOfThrones movie is in the works are based on fake quotes from @GRRMSpeaking, according to @HBO. Tabloids are shameless."
