Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump is known not to mince words. On Tuesday, he said that he's managed to drive Kentucky Senator Rand Paul out of the race.
"Prediction: Rand Paul has been driven out of the race by my statements about him -- he will announce soon. 1%!" The billionaire tweeted. "I hope when Rand Paul gets out of the race -- he is at 1%-his supporters come over to me. I will do a much better job for them," he continued on another tweet.
These predictions come from the last Real Clear Politics average, which The Washington Times noted, put Mr. Paul tenth in their latest poll, with only 2.4% support from Republicans.
"You know, it's sort of silly season anytime Donald Trump opens his mouth. But I would say something that's very important for Republicans is that he's not a real conservative," the Kentucky senator remained unfazed telling CNN.
Paul explained that no real conservative would support a single-payer health care system, tax raise, the stimulus package of President Obama or even the act of taking private property through eminent domain. He didn't mince words regarding Trump, calling the billionaire a 'clown'. "I'm thinking, how did we get the race for the most important office in the free world to sink to such depths and how could anyone in my party think that this clown is fit to be president?" he told CNN.
Despite his low favorable ratings, Paul is confident that he's going to be in the race at least as long as Trump. His wife, Kelley Paul, also thinks it is too early in the race to let the numbers matter at this point. CNN cited her in South Carolina, saying that the "race is still very fluid and early", although she did mention that her husband may not make another run in another four years, should he not succeed.
Trump has been mixing it up with fellow Republican candidates since the beginning of the GOP debates, and they have been singling him out as well. Just recently, Trump had to hit back at claims that he needs to be "more mature" and that he hasn't been behaving sufficiently in a presidential manner.
In his latest appearance on Fox, The Guardian noted that presenter Bill O'Reilly took note of how Trump called Republican rival Marco Rubio "a clown" at a conference, to which Trump replied that he's "a counterpuncher", insisting that "I was getting along with him and then he attacks me about nothing".
What is your opinion regarding Trump's unconventional campaign strategy?
