Jim Carrey shares his regrets at the death of his long-time on-and-off Irish girlfriend Cathriona White who had reportedly committed suicide on Monday evening.
In an official statement released to Access Hollywood, the 53-year-old comedian expressed his sentiments at his 28-year-old ex-girlfriend's untimely death.
"I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona. She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled," the statement read.
"My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt," the statement continued, reaching out to White's family and loved ones.
Carrey's statement comes after White's lifeless body was found in her Los Angeles residence Monday evening after the authorities received a call of distress, TMZ reported.
"Law enforcement tells us they believe she died from an overdose of drugs -- pills were next to her body. We're told 2 friends found Cathriona last night when they went to check on her," the TMZ report read.
Police were led to believe that White had committed suicide after they found what looks like a suicide note addressed to the "Mr. Popper's Penguins" star.
However, Access Hollywood revealed that an autopsy and toxicology report which usually takes 10 weeks to complete has yet to be released in order to confirm whether or not White took her own life.
Furthermore, Los Angeles County Coroner Assistant Chief Ed Winter said that her death cannot be declared a case of suicide via drug overdose without the said test results.
A couple of days before her death, Carrey's former girlfriend posted what seemed to be a farewell Tweet to her Twitter followers and the rest of the world.
"Signing off Twitter, I hope I have been a light to my nearest and dearest," she wrote.
On the same day, she posted a photo of flowers in a vase over Instagram captioned with what Access Hollywood described as "a chilling W.B. Yeats quote."
"Faeries, take me out of this dull world, For I would ride with you upon the wind, Run on the top of the dishevelled tide, And dance upon the mountains like a flame," the caption reads.
According to Access Hollywood, the two met back in 2012 and immediately hit it off and broke up after a couple of months.
In May, the couple had rekindled their relationship and split again a couple of days before she was found dead.
