Eva Longoria is teaming up with Will Packer to produce a new Latino-driven comedy for NBC.
"Bonita & Mechelle" is an upcoming multi-camera comedy that centers on two women, one Hispanic and one African-American, Deadline reported. The females will "find themselves living together while conquering the ups and downs of single life and parenting."
"Bonita & Mechelle" is from Will Packer Prods. and Longoria's UnbeliEVAble Entertainment. The show is written by Kriss Turner Towner and has Universal TV as its studio. Serving as executive producers are Packer, Longoria, UnbeliEVAble's Ben Spector, and Will Packer Prods.' Korin D. Huggins, Deadline listed.
Packer, 41, has produced films in the past featuring African-American characters, such as last year's "Ride Along" and 2012's "Think Like a Man," the news outlet noted. Longoria, 40, is producing two TV shows with Latino central characters, ABC Studios' "Devious Maids" and NBC's upcoming show "Hot and Bothered," which she also stars in.
Earlier this month, Deadline also reported about Longoria's UnbeliEVAble Entertainment selling its first series project under its three-year TV and film production deal with NBC. The comedy is set against the world of Texas Rangers and will follow the story of ranger Cathy Cruz, "who after inadvertently catching a serial killer, is recruited by the rough-and-tumble Texas Rangers," the news outlet wrote.
"Cruz butts heads with her straight-laced macho partner at work as well as her judgmental Mexican family at home, and the biggest question that remains is: which world does she fit into less?" Deadline added.
The comedy is written by "Hot and Bothered" writer-producer Rob Sudduth, with Longoria and Spector serving as executive producers. Aside from these shows, UnbeliEVAble is developing projects for HBO Films and NBC International, Deadline further wrote.
"Hot and Bothered" stars Longoria as Ana Sofia, the lead star of a Spanish soap opera who doesn't know how to speak Spanish, Daily Mail noted. Also starring are Diana-Maria Riva, Jadyn Douglas, and Alex Meneses. The series is expected to premiere on NBC before 2015 ends.
Eva Longoria Gracing Dallas Women's Foundation
Longoria will be the keynote speaker for the Dallas Women's Foundation's 30th Annual Luncheon on Friday, Oct. 30. The luncheon recognizes the Foundation's three-decade work to progress positive social and economic change for women and girls in North Texas, NBC reported.
The Foundation is responsible for granting $29 million dollars to drive research, programming, collaboration, and improving the support for women and girls, NBC listed. Longoria, on the other hand, founded The Eva Longoria Foundation, which helps Latinas to build a better future through entrepreneurship and education.
