Adam Sandler's "Hotel Transylvania 2" surprises critics after reaching record-breaking ticket sales worth $47.5 million over North America alone.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the sequel to Columbia Pictures' "Hotel Transylvania" has exceeded its maker's expectations.

In fact, the sequel had even broken the first film's record for the same period in September three years ago which held opening ticket sales worth $43 million.

This remarkable debut for the Sony Pictures Animation proves that the studio did not waste the $80 million they spent in producing the animated film.

"We had a great date, and this is a big win for Sony Pictures Animation. And the movie is exploding," Sony Marketing President Josh Greenstein proudly told The Hollywood Reporter.

The flick, which is currently being played in 3,754 locations worldwide, features a stellar voice cast including award-winning comedian Adam Sandler and famous pop singer Selena Gomez.

As expected, moviegoers who decided to see this movie had been mostly aged below 25 years old and are dominated by the ladies based on a report from the audience polling firm CinemaScore cited by the LA Times.

"We're on a roll right now. This is a huge opening. I think there's something in it for everyone whether you're an adult or a kid," Sony's head of distribution Rory Bruer explained.

According to Forbes, aside from bringing glory to Sony, "Hotel Transylvania 2" also marks Sandler's second-biggest debut weekend of all-time following the 2005 remake of "The Longest Yard."

Forbes contributor Scott Mendelson also considers the animated movie as one of 2015's top child-friendly movies that hit the right spot next to July "Minions."

Mendelson also noted how the film's reviews had been pretty solid especially with the reputation left by 2012's "Hotel Transylvania."

"The reviews were pretty solid, and animated sequels tend to open just over their predecessors. Selena Gomez, of course, plays to the kids who didn't necessarily grow up with Sandler and I would argue Mel Brooks was a slight added value element for the adults in the audience," he wrote.

The Forbes contributor also predicted the studio to end the year "on a pretty high note" with the help of the animated movie as well as other box office topping films like "War Room," "The Perfect Guy" and Daniel Craig's "Spectre."

Trailing behind "Hotel Transylvania 2" in the box office charts is Warner Bros.' "The Intern" with $18.2 million in the U.S. and Canada followed by last weekend's top flick "Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials" with $14 million worth of sales this weekend.
