The launch of Google's new operating system, Android 6.0 Marshmallow, is drawing near. Just recently, a new info has surfaced about the OS' integration to the company's latest Nexus devices.
MobileSyrup got their hands on an updated software release schedule from Canada's second largest mobile provider, Telus. According to the leaked info, Android 6.0 Marshmallow is set to roll out to the Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 starting on Monday, Oct. 5.
Google noted that the release dates are subject to change, but the "date makes sense in the scheme of how Google typically distributes new versions of Android to older devices shortly after the announcement and release of their new Nexus flagships," MobileSyrup wrote.
Aside from upgrading its last two Nexus smartphones to Android Marshmallow, Google will also unveil two brand new Nexus handsets on Tuesday, Sept. 29 called the LG Nexus 5X and Huawei Nexus 6P. Obviously, both of these mobile devices will carry Google's latest OS, BGR reported.
There are expectations that Google will release the final version of Android Marshmallow on Sept. 29 as well, PC Advisor wrote. The company is known for naming their operating systems after tasty treats. Past iterations are named Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, KitKat, and Lollipop.
According to Android Geeks, there's a huge chance that Android Marshmallow will also make an appearance quite soon on Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S5, and Galaxy Note 4 devices. The news outlet speculated that the mobile devices will get the OS' over-the-air (OTA) update after the Nexus smartphones upgrade.
Moto X Play, Moto X Pure Edition, and the Moto X 2016 are also said to be on the verge of an Android Marshmallow update, Neurogadget claimed. Other devices which will likely receive the new OS are the HTC One M8, M9, and M+, as well as Sony's Xperia Z3, Z3+, and Z4 Tablet, a separate report from the news outlet listed.
Android Marshmallow Features
The OS is expected to carry new features intended to improve user experience, such as the new custom tabs made for Chrome. If you click a link within an app, it will not launch Chrome separately but will instead display a Web view within the app, The REM wrote.
With Android Marshmallow, users can deny permission to apps trying to obtain personal information, The REM added. The OS also has the capability to show an overview of Google Maps whenever users call 911 or the emergency number of their residence.
Users can expect a better battery manager that activates the Doze app for when the smartphone is in idle mode, effectively minimizing consumption, the news outlet wrote.
