HTC has made it a recent mission to vigorously update its lineup to newer Android and Sense firmwares, and it looks like the HTC Butterfly S is the latest recipient of such an update containing Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and Sense 5.5.
HTC has started pushing out software update 2.21.708.1 for the HTC Butterfly S, allowing users to snag the new Jelly Bean and Sense versions over the air. As usual, the update is being pushed out in batches, meaning not everybody will receive the upgrade immediately, although it shouldn't be too long before most do. The update weighs in at a hefty 746MB, so be sure to have the device is charged and tethered to a Wi-Fi connection before downloading.
Android 4.3 Jelly Bean brings the usual security and performance tweaks one expects from a newer version (Android 4.3 Jelly Bean is not the latest version of Android — Android 4.4.2 KitKat is — but it's still a step up for Butterfly S users) but it's the new Sense features that will really capture users' attentions.
Sense 5.5 includes improvements to Video Highlights and allows users to aggregate content from more sources such as Twitter, YouTube, and RSS feeds into BlinkFeed. HTC has also added an embedded music channel and updated the interface for Sense TV.
There is no American variant of the HTC Butterfly S, but the Verizon HTC Droid DNA (the U.S. version of the original HTC Butterfly) is scheduled to receive Android 4.4 KitKat by the end of Q1 2014. The phone was recently bumped to Android 4.2.2 and Sense 5.0 earlier this month.
