Owners of the Sony Xperia Z, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia ZL, and Xperia ZR can now join Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra owners as proud recipients of a shiny new Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update.
Sony announced Monday that it started pushing out Android 4.3 Jelly Bean for the four devices, and that it would provide information on updates for other Xperia products shortly. The release of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean for the four devices falls right in line with a Sony's promise to have the firmware out and about by December.
Although the upgrade has started rolling out, not everybody will receive it at once given the phased nature of Android releases. Carrier-tied variants will have to wait a while longer as the firmware will have to go through the usual red tape and approval process before distribution.
The upgrade also applies to the Sony Xperia ZQ, which is the Brazilian version of the Xperia ZL.
On top of the usual security and performance tweaks, the upgrade also contains Sony's Smart Social Camera, the latest versions of all Sony apps, downloadable "Xperia Themes," and improved business enterprise software. Users will also find a new Stamina mode designed to lengthen battery life.
Sony has confirmed that the Xperia Z, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia ZL, and Xperia ZR will all receive Android 4.4 KitKat sometime in 2014.
