Curved displays are on pace to become the next innovation leap in the smartphone market, but it looks like their entrance into the mainstream might be delayed. A new report states that the Samsung Galaxy S5 won't feature a curved display due to supply limitations.

When rumors first began swirling about Samsung's next-gen handset, one of the most thrown around pieces of information was that the Galaxy S5 would be the first Samsung flagship to feature a curved display. A new Korea Herald report, however, states that the Galaxy S5 won't sport a curved OLED screen because of production line limits.

"The current capacity for flexible panels is not high enough for the Galaxy S5, which will be rolled out early next year. Curved ones will be unveiled late next year as a Galaxy variant rather than as a flagship model," said Kim Jong-hyun, an analyst at Seoul-based Eugene Investment & Securities, in the Korea Herald report.

Despite the setback, Samsung's Galaxy S5 should still feature an impressive display if early leaks are correct. The Galaxy S5 is rumored to ship with a 2650X1440 2K HD display, a move that means the Galaxy S5 would have the highest display resolution on the market at the time. The smartphone is expected to release close to the end of Q1 2014, a couple months before previous Galaxy S releases.

Other specs based off rumored Samsung Galaxy S5 benchmarks include a 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 MSM8974AC processor, 3GB RAM, a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, and Android 4.4 KitKat.

Bear in mind that Samsung has not even officially confirmed the existence of the Galaxy S5, so treat all information about the device with a healthy dose of salt.
