Rene Casados has joined the cast of "La Tempestad."

Televisa announced that Casados would start shooting scenes immediately and that his role would be important to William Levy's character El Capitan Fabre. Casados will portray Claudio, a powerful man who will become a mentor to Levy's character. The actor told "Todo para la Mujer" that he was very happy with the character and the project because it had a great cast and he was working with a lot of friends. He also said that he was excited to work with his good friend and "brother" producer Salvador Mejia. Casados concluded by stating that he could not give any more details regarding his character because he wanted create anticipation for the audience.  

Casados becomes the latest addition to the telenovela. Arturo Peniche and Marianna Seoane were recently added in order to bring ratings up.

Ever since "La Tempestad" started airing in Mexico, the series has suffered low ratings and received mixed reviews because of Levy and Ximena Navarrete's lack of chemistry. However it was not the first time the telenovela hit headlines. When the Mexican production started shooting in March it underwent massive criticism. The production team criticized Levy for his hard-to-understand Cuban accent. The producers stated that Levy's Spanish was barely comprehensible and a complete headache. Levy and Navarrete were also asked to take acting classes to build their chemistry. Levy was asked to take diction classes while Navarrete was asked to take classes that would help her in front of the camera.

The actors later responded to the criticism and defended their performances in the new novela.

"La Tempestad" is based on the popular Colombian series "La Tormenta" which starred Natalia Streignard and Christian Meier. The series also stars, Ivan Sanchez, Laura Carmine, Jessica Coch, Diana Bracho, Cesar Evora, Alfonso Herrera and Luis Manuel Avila. "La Tempestad" airs in the in US in July on Univision.
