J.K. Rowling has kept the Wizarding World alive once again, by sharing with fans the Potter family history. According to Mashable, Rowling unraveled Harry Potter's ancestry in time for the unveiling of the redesigned Pottermore website.

The "Harry Potter" writer begins her tale with a little fact about the Potter family. She states that Harry's family has always been formidable, but preferred to stay away from the limelight. Harry is technically the family celebrity.

According to BuzzFeed, Harry's bloodline can be traced all the way to Linfred of Stinchcombe, who was survived by seven children. Linfred is described by the author as a bit eccentric.

In fact, Linfred was called "the Potterer" by his Muggle neighbors, due to his eccentric behavior, like pottering around in his own garden. Eventually the name stuck and that the rest as they say is history.

Besides being eccentric, Linfred was actually quite an accomplished wizard, whose inventions lead to the first fruits of the infamous Potter family fortune. Linfred produced quite a few remedies, which served as a foundation for potions some Harry Potter fans might be familiar with, like Skele-gro and Pepperup Potion.

Fans of the series will remember that Skele-gro was used when Gilderoy Lockhart accidentally made all of the bones in Harry's arm disappear. While Harry did not like the taste of the potion, it certainly was effective. He had a whole set of new bones in his arm within 24 hours, thanks to his great, great, great grandfather.

Another one of Harry's great-grandfather inherited the inventor's gene from Linfred. JKR writes that Harry's ancestor, Fleamont, was part of Wizengamot and invented Sleekeazy's Hair Potion. So, Hermione can thank Harry's great-grandfather for sleek hair on her magical night with Krum at the Yule Ball.

Another notable relative of Harry's is Iolanthe Peverell, who married one of Linfred's sons. Iolanthe was the granddaughter of Ignotus Peverell, one of the wizards who were originally bequeathed with the Deathly Hallows.

Iolanthe's father had to bequeath the invisibility cloak to his eldest child, instead of his first-born son because he had no male heirs. As a result, the Deathly Hallows went to Iolanthe.

After inheriting the cloak, Iolanthe broke tradition and from then on the Deathly Hallow was passed on to the eldest child in each new generation.
