On Monday, an update on the software of the Apple Watch was made available to the public.
CNet said that the release finally happened after a delay last week when a bug disrupted the operating system update on its testing process.
It added that this OS 2 software will "greatly enhance the capabilities of its smartwatch, including allowing the device to better run third-party applications."
For a user to be able to download the Watch OS 2, The Verge explained that they also need to install iOS 9 on their iPhones.
After this, MacWorld also instructed Apple Watch users to open their Apple Watch app on their iPhones and choose "My Watch > General > Software Update."
"Make sure your watch is in Bluetooth range of your iPhone and connected to its charger. This could take a while," added the same report.
This update on the watch will also reportedly speed up the loading of the applications and will update third-party apple like Strava, MLB, CNN, Facebook Messenger and GoPro.
In discussing more features of the watch, MacRumors said that new developer tools have also been added.
"WatchOS 2 brings native apps that run on the watch itself instead of the iPhone, and it lets developers access several sensors and hardware features including the Taptic Engine, heart rate monitor, microphone, and accelerometer," added the same report.
These updated features for developers are expected to make applications run "more smoothly" on the watch.
In addition, MacRumors noted that the update will also add new watch faces like photos from your album and time-lapse of cities like New York, London and Hong Kong, third-party complications and a feature which will make the screen active for about 70 seconds.
A Time Travel feature which enables users to view events on their watch and a "Nightstand" mode are also available on the said Apple Watch update.
TechInsider said that the Nightstand mode makes the watch an alarm clock when it is placed on its side and is connected to a charger.
"The Digital Crown will become your snooze button in the morning and the side button will shut the alarm off," the same report added.
Another feature of the update is that users can not reply to their e-mails via a voice dictation to Siri.
Other notable features of the Watch OS 2, as per TechInsider, are noted below:
Transit directions
Add multiple groups of contacts
Make colourful sketches
Activation Lock, a security feature which is available on the iPhone and iPad. "It requires the iCloud account login you paired the Apple Watch with to be entered if the device is lost or stolen," added TechInsider.
