The much awaited season 9 premiere of BBC's "Doctor Who" finally aired, and it was heartbreakingly good. Unfortunately, BBC noted that the second season featuring Peter Capaldi as the Time Lord did not fare well for fans, as it only garnered an average 4.6 million viewers, as opposed to his 6.8 million average debut last year.

But there is a chance of the series still looking up, considering that the premiere episode, despite the low number of viewers, still held on to top-notch story telling.

Here are the highlights of "The Magician's Apprentice" as noted by the Syndey Morning Herald, and if you haven't watched, be forewarned: Spoilers, sweetie.

1) Meet the child that will one day spread horror and chaos in the universe.

Joey Price plays Davros, the future creator of the Daleks (and The Doctor's worst enemies) who is trapped in a creepy "hand mine" field.

2) The Fourth Doctor Appears in all his glory

However, it won't be a new clip, but a replay of an old one. In 1975's "Genesis of the Daleks", the Fourth Doctor pondered, "If someone who knew the future, pointed out a child to you, and told you that that child would grow up totally evil, be a ruthless dictator who would destroy millions of lives, could you then kill that child?"

3) The Appearance of the Shadow Proclamation

Described as the "outer space police" by The Tenth Doctor the universal government body returns to uphold their responsibility in galactic law, which means that their appearance in the episode could mean that the Doctor's current adventures will lead to bigger implications in the universe.

4) UNIT also has a role

The United Nations Intelligence Taskforce (now called the Unified Intelligence Taskforce) is an earth-based military agency that deals with alien threats to humankind. The taskforce already aided The Doctor in several instances, from whichever invasion posed dangers -- from Autons, to Daleks, to Cybermen, which all seemed to end up in the sewers of London.

5) Finally, the biggest spoiler, via CNN:

Two major characters died -- first being the Doctor's frenemy, Missy AKA The Master (Michelle Gomez), and the other being the Doctor's latest companion, Jenna Coleman's Clara Oswald, who were both exterminated by the Daleks to oblivion.

Bonus: in the final scene, the Doctor returned to that moment where he met Davros as a child, and got ready to exterminate him. Jenna Coleman announced that she is leaving the show, but for Whovians, her death was sudden. What did you think of "The Magician's Apprentice?
