Photos of Jason Pierre-Paul's fireworks-damaged hand surfaced recently and they do not look good at all.
The exclusive photographs were released by the New York Daily News and noted that these clearly show that the right index finger of the New York Giants' defensive end was missing.
Pierre-Paul was wounded in a fireworks accident during a July 4 celebration with his right index finger surgically removed.
The photos which recently surface also hint that the tip of his thumb could also be missing though New York Daily News said this is still for confirmation.
"But it doesn't appear that the hand has healed anywhere near enough for JPP to return to lifting weights or doing football activities any time soon," added the same report.
Despite his state, the Giants have reportedly not yet ruled him out.
Yahoo Sports explained that he has no exact return date since team officials are still assessing the extent of damage on his hand.
"While the team had placed a franchise tag on him in the offseason, Pierre-Paul never signed the tender and is, at the moment, unsigned," added the same report.
On the other hand, Giants defensive end Robert Ayers saying that Pierre-Paul's return is very much possible.
"Actually, I don't need to see (the pictures) to know he can play with it," Ayers told New York Daily News.
He added that that a player can still performa even with no fingers at all.
"You've seen guys play with big casts on their hands, literally, so it's proven. Is it a bonus (to have all your fingers)? Yes it is. But is it impossible to play with no hands? No," he added.
The defensive end highlighted that the important thing is he has the heart for the game.
"His heart is what's going to get him through this, not his hand - or lack of hand, or whatever you want to call it. That's how I view it," Ayers noted.
In a post on his Instagram account, Pierre-Paul reposted a photo released by New York Daily News with the caption "They trying so hard to bring me down but it won't work , I'm still the best and will always be the best at what I do! God has the last say so on my future. #90PC"
He also shared a video of him training hard noting that he is set to return soon.
"God can turn any situation around for the better. Your hard times will lead to the best times of your life. Don't believe the hype ... Be back soon! #90PC #ImAFighter #PutMeInCoach," he posted along with the workout video.
The football world awaits what will eventually happen to Pierre-Paul after his injury, will he return of the NFL or will his career be ultimately affected.
