Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag has been a big hit for publisher Ubisoft, and the game is on many different best games of the year lists. Ubisoft is not a company to rest on their laurels when it comes to success, and now it has been revealed that not only is another Assassin's Creed title in the works for 2014, but two titles are being planned in the series for the new year.

In an interview with The Examiner, Ubisoft Sofia producer Momchil Valentinov Gindyanov stated that multiple Assassin's Creed titles in 2014 is "definitely a possibility" and that planned handheld titles for the series are not part of these plans, meaning that these games would be console games. When The Examiner spoke to anonymous contacts within the company, they stated that one Assassin's creed title is being developed exclusively for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One generation of console, while another will be exclusive to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 generation of consoles. The sources also claimed that Assassin's Creed is set to go under a "massive re-scope" however it is not clear what this would mean for the franchise.

So if there are multiple Assassin's Creed titles coming to fans in 2014, what sort of games can fans expect in the future? One possibility that seems likely is a HD remake of Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation. This formerly handheld title takes place at the same time as Assassin's Creed 3, but takes place in the southern United States and features the series first female protagonist, Aveline. This excellent handheld title is definitely worth checking out for fans of the series that do not own a PlayStation Vita and missed out on the game.

Another possibility is that Ubisoft creates a game based on the settings and characters found in the graphic novel Assassin's Creed: Brahman. This graphic novel features a brand new character, Arbaaz Mir, and takes place in 19th century India. The new setting would allow Ubisoft to continue the series after the events of the third and fourth games in the series with a new protagonist both in the main game and during the present day portion of the game.
No matter what the case may be, the upcoming Assassin's Creed titles should be some of the highlights of 2014. After a somewhat lackluster entry in Assassin's Creed 3, Assassin's Creed 4 has helped the company bounce back stronger than ever, and the possibilities that the next gen consoles offer should help make the series better than ever.
