Square Enix and Disney Interactive Studios' "Kingdom Hearts" was made available to gamers in 2002. A sequel was confirmed, developed, and rolled out in 2005. Ten years later, fans are eager to know if a third game from the series is in store. Granted, other "Kingdom Hearts" spinoff games have been introduced, but there are still demands for a definitive installment.
A LinkedIn profile of a former Square Enix employee now serves as a hint for "Kingdom Hearts 3," Hardcore Gamer reported. The leaked page indicated of his time in the company working not just on "Kingdom Hearts 3," but also on "Kingdom Hearts 2.9."
"His profile indicated that he had worked on several features of 'Kingdom Hearts III' design, which included but were not limited to, the Gummi ship sections, world design, map design, dialogue planning, multiplayer planning and even translating for Disney and Pixar Studios," Hardcore Gamer added.
It turns out that "Kingdom Hearts 2.9" is the "Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue," which is a full-HD remastered version of "Kingdom Hearts 3D [Dream Drop Distance]," the news outlet noted.
Game Revolution doesn't think of "Kingdom Hearts 3" as a much delayed game, because "it's not like Square Enix came out and put dates on it all the way back in 2006." A third installment, however, was highly expected by fans. Developers have expressed their desire to make it and interview quotes have made its way online.
In the midst of all, no official launch date has been announced, proving that the sequel keeps getting stashed in the background. Game Revolution said that 2017 is the earliest release date that can be given to "Kingdom Hearts 3," which will be released for PS4 and Xbox One.
Hardcore Gamer considered a "Kingdom Hearts" fatigue because of the long waiting game, adding that it's "turning out to be nothing more than a goose chase with promises of 'coming soon' around every turn."
The "Kingdom Hearts" game revolves around a 14-year-old boy named Sora as he travels across different worlds looking for his long lost friends, IGN wrote. The game showcases more than 100 well-known Disney characters including Mickey, Donald, and Goofy as they come across popular "Final Fantasy" icons such as Cloud and Squall. Together, the characters will battle an evil and persistent force called The Heartless.
In the meantime, fans will have to settle for "Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue," which will be released on the PS4 and will feature protagonists Sora and Riku dealing with the Mark of Mastery examination to train for impending threats, PCMag reported.
