Golden State Warriors star and NBA Finals 2015 MVP Stephen Curry will remain as the brand ambassador of sports apparel and accessories company Under Armour until 2024.
ESPN reported that Curry made a special appearance at the company's annual investor day and presented a contract that showed that he will stay with the brand for nine more years.
Though the terms of the deal were not revealed, Under Armour reportedly said that the contract would include ownership of the company.
"Stephen is a once-in-a-generation talent and has unprecedented influence on the game of basketball," said Under Armour executive vice president of global marketing Adam Peake.
He added that Curry is the perfect fit to the goals of the company.
"His work ethic, uncompromising self-belief, and commitment to the community are characteristics that make Stephen the perfect partner to ignite the growth of Under Armour in the sport of basketball and around the world. We are extremely proud to call Stephen family, and we are excited to write the next chapter of our shared story," Peake noted.
It can be remembered that the company signed him two years ago after Nike did not agree to seal a deal which was worth less than $4 million annually.
Sports Illustrated detailed that Nike pitched only $2.5 million prior to Under Armour given an offer which was close to $4 million.
He slowly rose to fame as his Curry One was released last February even leading his team to the NBA Championship and winning the MVP award.
In a statement quoted by PR Newswire, Curry said that the company also felt like family to him since day one.
"In the first two years of our partnership, we accomplished so much both on and off the court, and I'm looking forward to being part of the brand's story for the rest of my playing career and beyond. Together we share a passion for making athletes better and instilling self-belief in athletes everywhere. The entire team has done an amazing job to develop innovative product that performs on the court and build platforms that allow me to connect with athletes all over the world. The best is yet to come," the Warriors guard added.
According to ESPN, the good relationship with the brand and the basketball star will continue as they aspire to rake more profits. It noted that the sales of the Curry One were up by 40 percent with the company earning $153 million in three months from the sale of the Curry shoe alone.
Brand founder and CEO Kevin Plank recently announced that they are expecting to make an estimated 22 percent of the their projected $7.5 billion in sales in two years time.
Meanwhile, PR Newswire note that the Curry Two has already been launched in Asia coinciding the Warriors' guard Asian tour.
The show is set to be launched in the United States and other countries on October 24.
