The iPhone 7 is said to be thinner than ever -- in fact, according to Forbes, it's now so thin, that it's even thinner than the iPad Air 2.
The outlet noted that the next phone from Apple Inc is set to be unveiled in 2016, but a lot of rumors already started pouring in, the first being that the iPhone 7 is going to be the thinnest iPhone so far to be released.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo via Apple Insider said that Apple is planning to make iPhone 7 between 6.0 to 6.5 millimeters thick. To compare, the iPhone 6s is 7.1 millimeters thick, the iPhone 6s Plus 7.3 millimeters, the iPhone 6 at 6.9 millimeters and the iPhone 6 Plus at 7.1 millimeters.
Of course, with the unveiling of the iPhone 7 still a year away, this rumor should be taken with a grain of salt. However, Forbes pointed out that Ming-Chi Kuo has been right about iPhone specs before. Kuo predicted that Apple Inc was working on a 12-inch Retina MacBook in October 2013, more than a year before it was released in March 2015.
What else can be expected of the iPhone 7?
Forbes mentioned that it will still support the touch feature introduced in the Apple Watched and improved upon in the latest iPhone gadgets -- the 6s and 6s Plus. These models also shipped with the feature called 3D touch, which can sense how much pressure you apply to the device display to activate a gesture called Peek and Pop -- something that lets you preview a content and act on it without having to open your apps.
Other than that, the iPhone 7 is said to likely have the same 12-megapixel rear-facing camera with 4K video recording, and a 5-megapixel front camera for selfies and video chatting.
BGR also reported that Apple Inc already secured a deal with TSMC to supply the iPhone 7 with A10 Chips. This processor uses 16nm FinFET technology and is expected to be mass produced my the end of the first quarter next year.
If this report is correct, Tech Times noted that Apple will then be one step closer to cutting its ties with Samsung completely. The site noted that even though the companies are rivals, Samsung actually manufactured 50% of the A9 chips being used to power the current iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The other 50% has been taken care of by TSMC.
What do you think of these rumors about the iPhone 7 so far, should Apple keep on making thinner gadgets or would you prefer the current thickness of their products?
