At the end of the last episode of "Fear the Walking Dead", the family's plan to hide out in the desert was cut short with the arrival of heavily armed National Guards as they occupy the neighborhood to assist with the cleanup of the latest zombie outbreak.

While it would have been a good ending, as fans of the companion series "The Walking Dead" already know, there is no happy endings when it comes to the zombie apocalypse.

So what can be expected for the next episode, called "Not Fade Away"?

According to the International Business Times, zombies might be taking a backseat as episode 4 will most likely focus on the new threats -- the guards, who will have things under control for awhile, but only just.

Although there hasn't been an exact breakdown as to how the United States military got broken in the presence of the zombies, what's apparent in the synopsis of the upcoming episode is that they are not the welcomed rescue. The synopsis from AMC read, "Madison and Travis see different sides of the National Guard's occupation in their neighborhood; the family tries to adapt to the new world."

However, it's not yet clear how the conflict between survivors and soldiers will be resolved, Episode 3 already suggested that it will have something to do with Madison's (Kim Dickens) son and Nick (Frank Dillane).

While "Fear The Walking Dead" is still early into its first season, it seems that the series is not faring as well as the network may hope. Sure, it broke ratings records with its premiere watched by more viewers than any other cable show in history, but as Cinema Blend noted, subsequent weeks didn't have as much of the original glittering ratings, as though most people were tuning them out.

Cinema Blend also noted that by the third episode, the numbers dropped 20%, with only 7.2 million viewers tuning in, compared to the 10.1 million viewers during the series premiere and 8.2 in the second episode. At this rate, the numbers will be halved by episode 5, which could be a problem for the network, considering that the show may not make it to a second season.

The Huffington Post also pointed out that the characters are not exactly the brightest as far as series go, noting that "Fear The Walking Dead" is pretty brainless for a zombie apocalypse movie, pun intended.

What do you think of the upcoming episodes, will you still be tuning into the companion series to "The Walking Dead"?
