Selena Gomez's cover story for the October 2015 issue of ELLE magazine highlighted the singer-actress' quest to her most authentic self.

Much has happened to Gomez in the past years, including her rollercoaster romance with fellow pop star Justin Bieber. Now she's gearing up to release her new album "Revival," which the 22-year-old artist claims will focus on her growing confidence and sensuality as a young woman.

In the accompanying interview with Mickey Rapkin for her ELLE magazine cover, Gomez dished once again on the future of her career and even touched on her past relationship with Bieber.

According to the "Good for You" singer, she wants to be "a little uncomfortable" with the career changes she went through this year, adding "that's why I made all of these decisions within a year. I wanted to be my own person. I wanted to test myself. I wanted to see if I could really do it," ELLE wrote.

Aside from her departure from Disney Music to Interscope, Gomez also bid adieu to Dream Out Loud, the eco-friendly clothing line she designed for Kmart that netted her $1 million yearly, the publication noted. Her Disney record label was behind some of Gomez's hit songs, such as "Love You Like a Love Song" and "Come and Get It." In addition, she also parted ways from her longtime manager, her mom Mandy Teefey.

ELLE's October issue, which will hit newsstands on Sept. 22, also revealed that the brunette beauty is dating someone again, but she insisted that "finding somebody is not my main focus."

"I think there's hints of it, but I think what I was really excited about was the title of the album [and] the rebirth of Selena," she said in her interview with Ryan Seacrest back in June, when asked if the record will have mentions of Bieber in it. "It's just beautiful. It's my chance to just feel like an independent artist and I worked really hard on it. So I guess that's just the vision. It's all about my journey. It's not about anything specific."

One of Gomez's closest pals, Taylor Swift, told ELLE that it's hard for the brunette beauty "to put herself out there, knowing that a lot of the media will try and twist her lyrics into a headline about her ex-boyfriend."

Swift added, "She doesn't care anymore. Now she knows that good music rises above and outlasts the weekly cycle of ridiculous headlines."

"Revival" features Gomez's collaboration with Julia Michaels, Justin Tranter, Hitboy, and Rock Mafia, Entertainment Weekly listed. Check out the album's full track list here. The record is due out on Oct. 9.
