When Motorola put the customizable Moto X on a huge discount for a Cyber Monday Sale, the response was great; so much that it overwhelmed Motorola's customization website until it crashed. As promised, that deal is back, and the Moto X's customization site is now ready for heavy traffic.

For a limited time until the end of the year, Motorola's Moto X phone for Verizon will cost as little as $50, even with customization through the MotoMaker site. That discounted price only comes with a two-year contract, but Motorola is also offering the Moto X contract free and unlocked at a $150 discount as long as supplies last ending tomorrow at 8PM EST, bringing the unlocked base price down to a more manageable $350.

Originally announced on the Today Show, where viewers were given the registration code "todayshow50" to put in at the order screen, it now appears that the discount applies to just anyone, according to Motorola's webpage (but maybe remember that code just in case).

Motorola is offering the various discounts again after its MotoMaker site crashed due to too much traffic on its Cyber Monday sale. First, Motorola's chief executive, Dennis Woodside, offered an apology and scheduled another sale for the week after Cyber Monday, on Dec. 9:

"Here is what we are going to do: Starting at 12 pm EST/9 am PST this Wednesday, we will relaunch the $349 promotion. To help make up for this major inconvenience to shoppers, we will also add an additional promotional day on Monday, December 9. We will double the quantity of phones available, while supplies last, to allow as many people as possible to take advantage of the promotion. We're also extending the 30-percent-off offer on accessories to these two days....

On behalf of all Motorolans, I apologize for what occurred today. I appreciate your understanding as we get this fixed in time for Wednesday and Monday."

But it appears that Motorola has decided just to open the floodgates now on its popular, highly customizable Moto X - all the way until New Year's Eve.

In collaboration with its parent company Google, Motorola introduced the Moto X in the Fall of 2013, with a later introduction of the MotoMaker customization option. The device is an LTE-capable smartphone that features a 4.7-inch AMOLED display with an HD resolution of 1280 x 720p, resulting in about 312 pixels per inch.

The Moto X is powered by a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro system on a chip, clocked at 1.7GHz with Adreno 320 graphics and 2GB of RAM. The upper-mid range phone offers a 10-megapixel main camera with LED flash, HDR and 1080p video recording at 30 frames per second, and a 2-megapixel front-facing shooter capable of 1080p video as well. Two models are available, a 16GB base model and a 32GB variant that generally costs about $50 more. Like the Moto G, Nexus 5, and other devices created by Google, the Moto X is upgradeable to the latest Android 4.4 KitKat operating system.
