Now that the iPad Pro has been released, fans are eagerly anticipating if the upcoming Microsoft Surface Pro 4 can go against the latest Apple tablet.
Below is a comparison of some of the expected features of the Surface Pro 4 and the specifications of the newly-introduced iPad Pro.
1. Processor
Forbes said that the Microsoft device is expected to come with Intel Broadwell chips, which would not need a fan since it "runs cooler"; thus would reduce the thickness, noise and weight of the upcoming gadget.
"It would be a mistake, though, for Microsoft to not take advantage of the opportunity to expand the computing power of the Surface Pro 4 with Core i5 and Core i7 Intel Skylake processors," added the same report.
Meanwhile, TechTimes reported that the iPad Pro comes with the new A9X chip, which is considered by the company as "a pretty substantial 1.8x faster than the previous generation A8X chip - putting it in the same class as many desktop computer processors."
2. Battery life
The Surface Pro 4 is also claimed to come with a longer battery life, but with more computing power that drains less power from the device. Forbes said that the tablet may last all day on a full charge.
On the other hand, Mobile Tech Review noted that the iPad Pro has an "all-day 10-hour battery life," which promises efficiency to its users.
3. Display
NeuroGadget also claimed that the device will feature a 12-inch display with a 2160×1440 resolution.
"The size and weight are very similar to the Surface Pro 3, however it seems that the Surface Pro 3 is a bit thinner," added the same report.
For the newest iPad, TechTimes said the 12.9-inch tablet "offers a display with a whopping 5.3 million pixels - more than the display on the MacBook Pro with Retina Display."
4. Price
The Surface Pro 4, which is rumored to be made available this October, is expected to start selling at around $800 for the 12-inch version, a price almost similar to the Surface Pro 3. Buyers would need to pay an additional $100-150 for the 14-inch variant.
Meanwhile, Apple will make the iPad Pro available by November for $799. It also comes with a four-speaker system, multitasking features, optional Apple Pencil (a top-of-the-line stylus which can detect precise scribbles and angles), FaceTime camera and Wi-Fi compatibility.
As for the Surface Pro 4, TechNewsToday suggested that new technologies could be incorporated in the camera of the device like an iris scanner.
"An iris scanner utilizing infrared functionality baked into the front camera, the process of unlocking just by looking at the Surface Pro 4 could be sped up drastically," added the same report, noting that a possible RealSense 3D camera could also improve video calling.
The upcoming tablet is also believed to come with a new stylus, after Microsoft acquired N-Trig, an Israel company known for the Surface tablets' "pressure-sensitive stylus technology."
