The Division is one of the many games slated for 2014 that has gamers buzzing with interest, and it is one of the most promising games Ubisoft has planned for the year. The game is slated to come to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, as well as the PC. While some PC ports of blockbuster games have been lackluster, Ubisoft is promising that the PC version of The Division will match the quality of the console versions of the game, and may in fact surpass it.
In a Q&A blog post Bioware was asked about how the game is going to look on the PC, and Ubisoft revealed that Massive Studios, the team behind developing the game, is working hard on the PC version of The Division and the game will play just as well on the PC as the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One:
"As you know, Massive has its roots in PC development. We are working hard and we want to make sure that we have a very high quality experience on PC. You can be sure that our PC version won't be a port, but a full-fledged, optimized version! We want to create the best game possible regardless of what platform you play on."
Bioware also spoke frequently about the Snowdrop Engine that will power the game and add new levels of realism to The Division. Not only will the Snowdrop Engine help make the dystopian New York City of the game look great, but will allow The Division to have very detailed destruction effects:
"We always wanted to have a high quality destruction system. But the truth is that thanks to Snowdrop, we ended up with the most realistic destruction system to date. We created a visceral and accurate destruction experience using procedural techniques; it reacts differently depending on the physical forces at play. For example, when glass shatters or wood splinters, it will mimic reality like you've never seen before."
The development team also discusses the lighting system for the game will allow the game to feel more as though players are in a living world rather than a simulation of a rundown city:
"The lighting system, inspired by film production techniques, is one of the powerful features that will enhance the players' experience. It captures light realistically, which means that any change in the game environment will have an impact on the lighting. The great thing is that this applies not just to the indoor and outdoor lighting, but to the time of day as well."
