Rumors claim "Transformers 5" as the bridge towards a more 'diverse collection of movies' similar to that of Marvel Cinametic Universe despite abysmal reviews received by 2014's "Transformers: Age of Extinction."

According to Screen Rant, the reason behind the franchise's success does not lie solely on the movie's quality or storyline but more on the international appeal it holds.

"In the era of mega movie franchises, Michael Bay's Transformers series is one of the biggest and most lucrative," the report read, noting how the last Transformers flick earned $1.1 billion worldwide on theater tickets alone.

With this, says Screen Rant, franchise owner Paramount Pictures would most probably invest in it more by creating a shared cinematic universe which means fans may expect sequels, prequels, and spinoffs produced annually.

Before tackling all of that, Slash Film notes, there is still the "Transformers 5" at hand which reportedly would be released in theaters by 2017.

According to the outlet, Mark Ryan, the voice behind a couple of Autobots and Decepticons in past Transformers flicks revealed two possible ways the movie would be proceeding.

Citing the Christian Post, Slash Film, Cinema Blend and many other entertainment outlets revealed what Ryan was talking about during the Wings and Wheels convention held in the U.K.

The first plot, says Ryan, is a somewhat familiar one considering that it would see the return of Mark Wahlberg's Cade Yeager and the struggle of the humans on earth.

The second one is the most unusual one because it focuses more on the alien robotic race and the mythology that revolves around them.

According to Slash Film, it proceeds to the exact same moment teased at the end of "Transformers: Age of Extinction" where Optimus Prime proceeds on with his personal mission to locate his "creators" responsible for his Lockdown on Earth.

This line of plot proceeds with the semi-truck protagonist going to space to look for the "Quintessons," the tentacled race who reportedly created the Autobots to become laborers and the Decepticons to act as their soldiers.

This, Cinema Blend notes, is most probably the 'endgoal' of the studio considering that it is something they could invest in, saying: "Paramount has clearly deduced that audiences respond much more positively to the giant CGI robots, rather than the interpersonal drama of Shia LaBeouf -- and then Mark Wahlberg."

Either way, the official storyline has yet to be revealed in the upcoming release of "Transformers 5" set for 2017.
