UFC champion Ronda Rousey will be the star of MGM's remake of the 1989 hit film "Road House."
Variety said she will play the role of Dalton, who was previously portrayed by Patrick Swayze. It noted that MGM is still meeting with screenwriters and that the production of the movie will begin by next year.
According to TV Guide, the movie's plot centers on Dalton who was tasked "to restore law and order to seedy saloons" in Missouri.
"Dalton is quite a guy: he's got a degree in philosophy, he's amazingly skilled in the martial arts, he's a mystic who feels no pain and he killed a man in Memphis (self-defense, of course)," described TV Guide. His character was reportedly tested when he had to go against a corrupt businessman.
ESPN learned that Rousey has not yet signed any contract for the role but noted that it "typically comes further along in the process."
Despite any formal agreement being signed for the film, Yahoo Sports said that the UFC fighter has already contacted Swayze's widow, Lisa Nieme, prior to her portrayal of Dalton's role. It can be remembered that Swayze died 6 years ago due to pancreatic cancer.
Nieme reportedly gave Rousey her blessing to play the role her husband formerly portrayed.
On her Twitter account, the female MMA fighter expressed that it is an honor for her to play Swayze's former role.
"It is a great honor to play a part in celebrating the life of a man that inspired so many. I couldn't be more grateful to have this opportunity to pay respect to the beloved Patrick Swayze. I promise to work incessantly to make sure this project is a tribute his family and fans can be proud of," Rousey tweeted.
She can be a great actress for the role with Yahoo Sports highlighting that she is "an all-world butt-kicker."
"Maybe she can unleash some of that aggression on the silver screen for all those menial tips and bad pick-up lines she had to endure," the same report added.
If this will indeed push through, Variety said it will be her "biggest acting gig to date."
Rousey has formerly starred in Hollywood films like "Furious 7," "The Expendables 3" and "Entourage."
She is also set to star with Mark Wahlberg in the upcoming movie "Mile 22," as per ESPN.
Her next fight versus Holly Holm, according to CBS Sports, was moved to Nov 14, giving her time to shoot "Mile 22" in February then her the biopic of her autobiography entitled "My Fight/Your Fight."
