If you’re a fan of “Duck Dynasty,” you overlook certain societal bugaboos the actors possess. If they don’t believe in gay sex, then so be it. Look at who they are. These beliefs are embedded in their culture. Everyone is a product of where they’re from and some things will never change. In this day and age, the actors’ views on gay marriage may be frowned upon, but that doesn’t give us the right to scrutinize their show. They have the right to state their opinion, no matter how skewed. After all, gay sex is still illegal in Louisiana, so it’s reasonable to try and sway your child towards a particular sexual preference living under such legislature.
Earlier this week, one of the show’s members, Phil Robertson, expressed his unsavory thoughts on the dangers and ludicy of homosexuality. Of course, his comments inspired heavy backlash, but then in a surprising turn of events, Jon Stewart defended him on “The Daily Show.”
“I don’t actually watch ‘Duck Dynasty,’” he said, “and I had assumed it was a show where ducks reenact the show ‘Dynasty’ - which, by the way, would have a huge gay audience.”
Stewart made it clear that he didn’t share the same personal views as Robertson and would never condone them, however, he added that he has “an inclination to support a world where saying ignorant s*** on television doesn’t get you kicked off that medium.”
And of course, it wouldn’t be “The Daily Show” without a few jabs at Fox News. "I guess I stand with the free speech absolutists at Fox News, who don't believe you should have to adhere to the culture norms of speech," Stewart added. "Mostly."
