Verizon isn't exactly known for its timely manner when it comes to Android updates, but as always, better late than never. Big Red has finally started pushing out Android 4.3 Jelly Bean for Samsung Galaxy S3s on its network.
Update JJSS15J.I535VRUCML1 is currently rolling out over the air, and brings Galaxy Gear compatibility to the popular Samsung Galaxy S3. Android updates roll out in batches, so don't fret if you haven't received a download notification just yet - it should land on every Verizon Galaxy S3 over the next few days.
Along with the usual security and performance tweaks and a shiny new Android operating system, the software update contains Bluetooth 4.0 LE support, a requirement for full connectivity with Samsung's Galaxy Gear smartwatch. The upgrade also brings several new features from the Galaxy S4's and Galaxy Note 3's TouchWiz interfaces.
A full changelog detailing the update's contents can be found at Verizon's support page.
Verizon is the last of the major U.S. national carriers to have released Android 4.3 Jelly Bean for the Galaxy S3. Carriers AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, and U.S. Cellular all managed to push out their updates during November.
There's no word on future updates for the Samsung Galaxy S3, although it's pretty much set in stone that the handset will receive Android 4.4 KitKat at some point in the future. The newer Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 are expected to receive KitKat during the first quarter of 2014, so it shouldn't be too long after that the Galaxy S3 gets its taste of KitKat as well.
