Euroleague guard Marcelo Huertas is the newest addition to the lineup of players of the Los Angeles Lakers after he reportedly penned a one-year agreement with the NBA team on Monday.

The Los Angeles Times said the 32-year-old Brazilian basketball star played the last four years with FC Barcelona as both a point guard and a shooting guard.

The same report said that during his previous season in Spain, he had an average of 7.6 points and 4.4 assists in 28 games.

In addition, Lakers Nation said he has also played for eight teams in his entire career and also became part of the Brazilian national team.

"The international product averaged 8.0 points and 3.8 assists per game during his career in the Euroleague," added the same report.

In joining the Lakers, Huertas will play alongside with Kobe Bryant, Jordan Clarkson, rookie point guard D'Angelo Russel and Lou Williams.

"Huertas would be 17th player under contract for the Lakers, but no details have been released on whether it will be guaranteed," noted Lakers Nation.

In an earlier interview with Yahoo Sports, the Brazilian player said the NBA still has a lot of space for basketball players, unlike the Euroleague.

"There's so much more space in the NBA. It's not like Europe now, where you have one guy full-time in the paint. Space is harder to come by," Huertas explained.

He added that among his strengths is playing in the pick-and-roll, making shots in the midrange game and finding open guys.

"I think that part is harder to find now, because you mostly have guys who get all the way to the hole, or they're three-point shooters. And if I'm open, and I can get my feet set, I'm going to make a lot of that kind of shots," the newest Lakers member stated.

The veteran is also positive that he can help in mentoring younger players in the team and giving them advice about basketball.

"If you look at NBA rosters, there are unbelievable starting point guards, but maybe not as many guys who can come off the bench able to run the team, score the ball, as well as being able to be a leader for young players. Those are things I know I'll be able to bring with me," Huertas added in the Yahoo Sports report.

This newest acquisition came a few days after reports revealed that free agent forward Metta World Peace may be heading back to the Los Angeles Lakers for a one-year deal.

Yahoo Sports clarified that there is still no contract agreed upon, but noted that the basketball player's representatives have been discussing options with the Lakers.

It added that the team has various reasons for trying to bring back the 35-year-old player.

Sources of Yahoo Sports claimed that World Peace has been staying at the Lakers' practice facility during the offseason, playing against Lakers players like Julius Randle.
