Charlie Sheen took back his statement against Donald Trump and now proclaimed himself in support of the Republican presidential candidate.
In July, Sheen tweeted a criticism against Trump calling the business magnate a "silly homunculus" and "a shame pile of idiocy," adding that his remarks are "as poignant as a sack of cat farts." Sheen, whose real name is Carlos Irwin Estévez, is of Spanish descent, Fox News Latino noted.
Now, it seems like the "Anger Management" star went through a change of heart. In response to comedian and liberal Owen Wilson's interview with The Daily Beast, Sheen declared that he wishes to be Trump's running mate in the 2016 presidential elections.
"Dear O. Wilson - they took your comment out of context! I'm honored! Thank you! If Trump will have me, I'd be his VP in a heartbeat!" Sheen tweeted on Aug. 28.
In his interview with The Daily Beast, Wilson said that the reason why Trump captured the attentions of the media and the public is because of his headline-grabbing antics, much like Sheen's.
"You can't help but get a kick out of him, and I think part of it is we're so used to politicians on both sides sounding like actors at press junkets-it's sort of by rote, and they say all the right things," the "Zoolander 2" actor told the news outlet. "So here's somebody who's not following that script. It's like when Charlie Sheen was doing that stuff-like, wow! He's answering a question completely honestly, and in an entertaining way."
He added, "The guy is a showman. You have to sort of get a kick out of the guy. It is entertaining, for sure. That's why people are tuning in."
Despite of Trump's huge media presence, Wilson believes that his popularity doesn't guarantee him a seat in the White House.
"You can't honestly believe he really could be president, do you? I have a hard time believing that... that still seems so far away. That doesn't quite seem realistic to me. But talk to me in a few months. We'll see," Wilson said, as quoted by The Daily Beast.
Trump drew out the ire of many celebrities and famous Hispanic personalities. Latino superstar Ricky Martin said that Trump's comments against their community make his "blood boil," according to a Spanish op-ed translated by Billboard.
Actor Matt Damon, who is married to an Argentine woman, labeled Trump's statements on Latino immigrants as "xenophobic," "disgusting," and "dehumanizing," EFE reported.
The Latin Recording Academy also protested against Trump, saying that the presidential hopeful should give credit to the Latino community's many contributions to the American society, Variety noted.
