Emma's world changed forever on the latest episode of "Once Upon a Time."
On the midseason finale, Rumple (Robert Carlyle) needs the Black Fairy's wand so he can cast a spell that can return Henry (Jared Gilmore) to his real body, defeat Pan, and return the curse scroll to the group so Regina (Lana Parrilla) can destroy it.
The Shadow goes after the wand, so Tink (Rose McIver) uses pixie dust to capture the Shadow, and burns it in the fire. After the Shadow is killed, Blue (Keegan Connor Tracy) returns to her body and she comes back to life. She then hands the Black Fairy wand back to Tink.
Rumple puts cuffs on Pan that zaps him magic powers, but Pan is the creator of the magic trick, so he is able to put them on Rumple.
Meanwhile, in the Fairytale Land That Was, Snow (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Charming (Josh Dallas) prepare for the Evil Queen to launch the curse. Suddenly, Snow is Mary-Margaret in Storybrooke, and she gives Henry the storybook that magically appears in her closet.
Back in the present day Storybrooke, Henry returns to his body and gives Regina the scroll, which causes her to pass out. Regina wakes up after having a vision of how to save Storybrooke, but Pan steals the curse scroll.
Rumple tells Bae (Michael Raymond-James) and Belle (Emilie de Ravin) that he loves them before stabbing his father with a dagger, which causes them to disappear, leaving the scroll behind. It appears as if Rumple is gone forever, but he may return.
Now that Pan is dead, Regina tries to evade the curse. To do so, Regina has to give up Henry and Storybrooke will be destroyed, which will send everyone back from whence they came. Henry and Emma can stay, but she will be separated from the rest of her fairytale family.
Emma and Henry are told that their memories will be erased when the curse is set. Regina gives Emma some good memories to change history: she makes it so Emma has never given up Henry.
It then flashes forward to one year later. Emma is making breakfast for Henry at their home in New York. Their morning routine is interrupted by the arrival of Hook (Colin O'Donoughue), who says he needs her help because her family is in danger. He kisses her to try to jog her memory, but she slams the door in his face because she does not remember who he is.
When the series returns in March with "New York City Serenade," Hook will try to get Emma to remember her parents, and Rebecca Mader will appear as the Wicked Witch of the West.
TVLine also revealed that there may be a Belle-centric episode, seeing as the creators are casting an "uppity know-it-all" servant for episode 15 who must have a French accent. The character will be named "Lawrence."
Series creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis also hinted that Rumple is probably not dead. "To the Rumbellers out there, we hope that you enjoy what we have in store. In the second half of the season, they are going to be in the same world for an extended period of time," Horowitz said. Kitsis also added, "The second half of the season will further explore their relationship - in whatever state that is."
