Antonio Banderas is ready to take on the world of fashion.
A few days ago, the movie star shared a snapshot of himself on Instagram standing among mannequins. In the photo's caption, Banderas describes his 2nd week of studying at Central Saint Martins, a London arts and design institution, as "intense, exciting, serious and fun all the same time."
A spokeswoman for the fashion establishment confirmed on Thursday that Banderas is indeed studying a short 4-week course in bespoke tailoring at the school, WWD reported. The representative added that the Spanish actor talked to the college's administration in early 2015 regarding his enrollment plans.
"[Banderas is] starting from scratch and learning the basics of bespoke tailoring," the spokeswoman said, as quoted by WWD. However, she didn't reveal whether Banderas is planning to launch his own fashion line soon.
In an interview, Banderas, 55, revealed that he has been considering venturing into the fashion industry for quite some time now.
"It's something that has been on my mind for a long time," the star of "The 33" said in British TV talk show "Loose Women," as quoted by Business Standard. "(Central St. Martins) is probably one of the best schools in the world ... and so I am going to start studying with them ... I need knowledge to take steps in that territory."
He continued, "It makes me feel actually very young to put the elbows on the table again and try to understand another reality. Of course, I won't stop my professional life, I'll continue acting, directing -- but this is a new thing."
Antonio Banderas on 'Havana Quartet'
Banderas will executive produce and star in Starz's upcoming drama series "Havana Quartet."
The news was announced by Starz CEO Chris Albrecht at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour, Deadline reported. The project is produced and distributed by Entertainment One Television globally and will be filmed in Cuba.
"Havana Quartet" is based on Cuban novelist Leonardo Padura's four-book detective series consisting of "Havana Blue," "Havana Gold," "Havana Red," and "Havana Black," Deadline listed.
The hour-long TV adaptation will be penned by Cuban playwright Eduardo Machado, who's also serving as the project's executive producer alongside Banderas, Nadcon Film's Peter Nadermann, Sienna Films' Jennifer Kawaja, and Julia Sereny, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"Havana Quartet" will follow the story of Mario Conde (Banderas), a hard-drinking and romantic detective who aspires to be a writer but ended up settling for a job in the police force. Albrecht said that the series is set in the 1990s "when the communist dream was starting to fray around the edges but there still was a lot of charm," Deadline noted.
