Apple's iOS version 8.4.1 was unveiled recently. As expected, the latest iteration of the operating system also came with jailbreaking programs.
When iOS 8.4.1 rolled out, it was equipped to fix bugs present in version 8.4, MNR Daily reported. Although the process also removed jailbreaking tools for iOS 8.4, Pangu, a jailbreak team from China, has demonstrated that iOS 8.4.1 is not immune to being jailbroken.
According to MNR Daily, Pangu presented their new jailbreaking tool at the HackPwn 2015 Conference this month. The full details on how the group managed to jailbreak iOS 8.4.1 can be found on Chinese blogging site, Weibo. However, keep in mind that the team is not planning on releasing the jailbreak to the public.
Pangu's decision could be a disappointment for users relying on jailbreak programs, but the team's plan is reasonable given that iOS 9 is rolling out in September. MNR Daily noted that jailbreak developers are probably "focusing their resources more on jailbreaking the coming iOS version rather than on version 8.4.1."
Aside from Pangu, another jailbreaking team called evasi0n is said to be working on a jailbreak tool for iOS 8.4.1, the news outlet wrote. The tool's official version is expected to be released this month.
Saurik's Unjailbreak Tool for iOS 8.4
Apple's iOS 8.4.1 patches the TaiG Untethered 8.4 jailbreak. Considering iOS 8.4 is no longer signed, this means that iOS 8.4.1 is the only version of the OS restorable. However, this doesn't mean that users have to restore back to iOS 8.4 to start anew and be able to install iOS 8.4.1.
Users who are running TaiG's iOS 8.4 jailbreak can use Saurik's Cydia Impactor. Check out the Cydia Impactor here or on Cydia within the BigBoss repo, iDigitalTimes wrote. The Cydia Impactor also works for iOS 8.3, but earlier versions of the mobile software are not covered.
According to iDigitalTimes, Saurik's jailbreak can be installed right on the jailbroken iOS device. To be safe, users should backup their files using iTunes or iCloud before using the Cydia Impactor app.
"Once you're ready to remove your jailbreak, tap the Cydia Impactor app and and hit delete all data/unjailbreak device," the news outlet explained. The un-jailbreak tool can be found by typing Cydia Impactor into Cydia or accessing its website.
Cydia's iOS 8.4 jailbreak also comes with tweaks for the iPad, such as CleverFix, StatusHUD2, and BetterRotate.
