Fans of the franchise may be left hanging indefinitely as the sequel for the "Man of Steel" may never see the light of day due to the upcoming DC film "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice."
According to rumors cited by Den of Geek, the sequel to the Superman stand-alone film starring Henry Cavil may be put on hold for a very long time even after Jon Schnepp revealed that "Mad Max: Fury Road" helmer George Miller would be doing the flick.
"George Miller is doing 'Man of Steel 2,'" Schnepp confidently claimed during an hour-long episode of Popcorn Talk this August.
Two of Den of Geek's sources said that Miller was indeed contacted and is already in talks with Warner Bros., though there was no word on which DC movie he was going to direct for the studio.
Despite this uncertainty, the outlet still sees the possibility of Miller doing the sequel to the "Man of Steel" as farfetched-at least not until another source revealed that the movie may be on "permanent hold."
According to the outlet, this is because the Warner Bros. bosses' interest may have been diverted to Ben Affleck's Batman who, according to a past report from Den of Geek, may see more movies to come in DC's expanding cinematic universe including a stand-alone film for the Dark Knight.
Studio executives were impressed with how Affleck portrayed the superhero and even gave him a standing ovation, calling him a "definitive Batman" during an exclusive screening of "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice" earlier in August.
"Basically, Warners are now working their movie universe around Ben's Batman," an unnamed source told the outlet.
There may even be three movies involving Batman set for the DC Cinematic Universe in the next 10 years.
iDigital Times believes that the studio may be onto something that could get them a bigger share of the market, considering that Batman flicks seem to have more appeal to the audiences than Superman.
While all these have yet to be confirmed by any of the entities involved, Yahoo Movies said that an indefinite hold of the "Man of Steel" sequel may not be impossible since the studio has no shortage of action-packed movies on their calendar.
Despite this, Superman fans need not worry because the studio would still provide them plenty of chances to see the red-caped superhero in action, starting with next year's "Dawn of Justice."
