Nokia's next Lumia smartphone is reportedly set to arrive this month and Verizon Wireless might serve as its exclusive mobile carrier.
According to NokiaPowerUser, the Lumia 929 was expected to debut on Dec. 20, however, Verizon Wireless may be delaying the release until 2014. The report noted the mobile carrier wants to secure a deal with Microsoft instead of Nokia for the smartphone's marketing and promotion.
"One reason behind this delay is claimed to be Verizon wanting to strike a deal with Microsoft than Nokia for device's launch promotion and marketing," reported NokiaPowerUser. "Nokia-Microsoft deal is supposed to take final shape during Q1 2014 and if sources have to be believed [Mobile World Congress] may see the first glimpse of Lumia devices without 'Nokia' branding (Though, I think otherwise as it is still February 2014)."
The 2014 Mobile World Congress, or MWC, is scheduled for February.
According to WPCentral, the Lumia 929 might launch on Jan. 16. The January date comes on the heels of the 2014 CES in Las Vegas, which could serve as a launching pad for Verizon to showcase the Windows Phone 8 device. The device could be the first Lumia device to abandon the numerals as the report stated the Nokia smartphone could be known as the "Lumia Icon."
The Lumia 929 is rumored to sport a 5-inch screen with 1080p display. The smartphone is reported to be sold with a 32GB internal storage model with 2GB of RAM. The Lumia 929 is compatible with Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, NFC and have 2,510mAH battery capacity.
