Samsung is said to be working on the Galaxy S7, its next flagship smartphone. Speculations have surfaced everywhere about the tech giant's new handset. Just recently, a new report pointed to the device's alleged processing chip.

A new leak from Korea, as translated by G4Games, claimed that international models for the Galaxy S7 will have Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820, while variants to be sold in South Korea will be powered by Samsung's own Exynos processor.

"Industry insiders" cited by the Korean website said that Samsung is doing intensive testing to determine whether it should use the Snapdragon 820 or its own Exynos processor, G4Games added. The Snapdragon 820 is said to be undergoing thorough examinations to ensure that it will not have the same problems as its predecessor.

Samsung's Galaxy S5 sported the company's own Exynos processor instead of the Snapdragon 810, Techno Buffalo wrote. There were rumors that the overheating issues in the Snapdragon 810 had a hand in Samsung's decision to use its own processing chips. The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 5 tuned out to be powerful devices equipped with the Exynos processor.

As for the capabilities of the Snapdragon 820, earlier rumors said that the processor can house eight Kryo custom cores as opposed to a Cortex-based architecture. Other speculations, however, suggested that the processor could utilize four Hydra cores, an Adreno 530 graphics chip, and that "it will be built on a 14nm FinFET process, not unlike the Exynos 7420," G4Games noted.

"We have to use the best engines to make our products competitive, which is why we opted to use our own chips," said JK Shin, head of Samsung Mobile, as quoted by PC Advisor. "But we may very well end up using products from Qualcomm again in the next Galaxy phone."

Other Rumored Specs

There are also rumors claiming that the Galaxy S7 will be equipped with 3D gaming when it rolls out in the market, according to smartphones2016.com. The handset is said to come in with a 5.5-inch screen display that has 4K resolution, along with 4GB of RAM.

A patent application from Samsung published by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office revealed a device that has the capacity to display a hologram and/or holographic icons, Patently Mobile reported.

Value Walk noted that if this patent pushes through in the Galaxy S7, the intricate technology could "revolutionize the smartphone industry."

Release Date & Price

Phone Arena speculated that the Galaxy S7 could be ready in the second half of 2015, though the handset might not exactly roll out in time for Christmas. PC Advisor estimated that the Galaxy S7 will be priced around $1014.
