Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, the next console entry into the prominent mobile series, will have a new multiplayer mode called Gardens and Graveyards that was inspired by one of the most popular modes found in the Battlefield series, Rush and Conquest modes, according to Gamespot.
The game mode will feature 24 players split between the zombie and plants factions. The zombies must try and overtake the plant's bases found on the map. Players on the zombie's team will use the various character classes to try and take out the plants. Meanwhile, the plants team will play more like the traditional tower defense gameplay found in the series to put a stop to the advancing zombies. If the plants lose a base, then the area will turn into a graveyard and then the plants must retreat to a new base.
This newly announced mode is not the only similarity Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare shares with the Battlefield series. The new game is being published by EA Games, who is also the publisher for the Battlefield series. Garden Warfare also uses the Frostbite 3 engine, which was developed for the Battlefield series.
Popcap will have many different modes besides the Gardens and Graveyards mode. The same will feature four-player co-op, but only the Xbox One version of the game will have offline co-op. The Xbox One version of the game will also exclusively feature Boss Mode. The game will offer traditional deathmatch modes as well. Many different classic plants from the games will be available with new twists and classes to add a new layer to the game. Zombies in the game will have a variety of characters and variants as well, including some not previously seen in the Plants vs. Zombies series.
Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare is due to appear in February for the Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC. It is unclear if the game will appear on other consoles as well, but considering Plants vs. Zombies 2 was launched on iOS devices before coming to Android, Popcap and EA could possibly port the game to the PlayStation 3 or 4.
