"Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens" cast member Lupita Nyong'o teases fans about her character, expected to closeted until the movie's release in December.
While fans are doing everything they can to scour information about the upcoming "Star Wars" episode, the makers of the franchise seemed successful in keeping the God of Mystery working for them, as very little information about Nyong'o's character has been revealed.
"Well, the easy part is that you don't get to see me until you see the film... All you get is dots on my face," Nyong'o tells Fandango during the recently concluded D23 Expo 2015, referring to a photo showing her face in extreme close-up.
"It's definitely difficult to keep the secrets, because, you know, you could slip and say something. So it's best to just shut up," she said.
The photo in question shows the face of the actress, who had made a stellar performance Steve McQueen's "12 Years A Slave" (earning her an Oscar Award), covered in white dots.
According to Cinema Blend, these dots may mean that Nyong'o's character, Maz Kanata, will most probably be computer-generated, a proud product of performance capture technology.
The outlet also cited some rumors that the actress would appear in the film as a castle-owning she-pirate who "might have operated a base that hosted smugglers."
While Nyong'o's claims about her role may be an "exaggeration," as Slash Film notes, Cinema Blend believes that "sneaky little spoilers" such as the release of toys and merchandise, may as well reveal the ever-so-mysterious character soon enough -- specially that "Star Wars" producers have been pulling off a massive marketing campaign nearing the film's premiere.
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is due to hit theaters on December 18, 2015, featuring a stellar cast that includes reprising stars of the original trilogy: Harrison Ford as Han Solo, Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia Organa, Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca, Anthony Daniels as C-3PO and Kenny Baker as R2-D2.
New faces will also be featured, including Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega (Finn), Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Isaac and Max von Sydow. The film is directed by J.J. Abrams.
What will be Nyong'o's role in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens"? Will she play a key role in the episode? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
