Season 4 of NBC's "The Voice" came to an end on Tuesday night, and unfortunately for her and her followers, Shakira wasn't the winning coach.
That title was taken by country singer Blake Shelton, as Danielle Bradbery, a member of his team, landed first place in the competition, crowning her mentor as the winner coach for the third consecutive season.
The Colombian singer took to Twitter to say goodbye to "The Voice," after serving as a judge. She posted a photo on Instagram, where the beautiful Barranquilla-born can be seen with her baby son Milan, who visited her on set several times. Instead of expressing in her own words the feelings on her first experience as a mentor in the popular music TV show, Shakira let her son have the honor.
"Mom, thanks for bringing me to @nbcthevoice, (was) very funny! While your fellow coaches have questionable influence on me [referring her fellow on-set-rivals Usher, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine], I'm ready for season six!", the 36-year-old captioned the picture that portrays a smiling mother and son.
The "Hips Don't Lie" singer decided to take a break from "The Voice" for next season to spend more time with her family and son and also to focus on the recording process of her new album. American singer Christina Aguilera will take her spot on the TV show during season 5.
Although none of Shakira's contestants reached the final round, "The Voice" has reportedly boosted the Colombian-born star's popularity in the U.S.
According to Hollywood Reporter music editor and TV communications expert Shirley Halperin, Shakira was one the most beloved judges of The Voice. "The program has been a very important platform for her", the journalist was quoted as saying by Colombian newspaper El Espectador.
Halperin further stated that although Shakira has been known in the United States through many years, her media presence was limited to music and that she only appeared in the news when publishing a new album.
The editor of entertainment magazine Variety, AJ Marechal, agrees that Shakira's personality is her key to winning the American audience.
"In the past, Shakira had several hits in the U.S. The Voice has helped her to reach those that may not have followed her career. The show is watched by millions of viewers every week. I think she has an endearing personality and the public loves her", Marachal told the BBC Mundo.
