Google has finally named its latest Android System, and it seems like the company has taken a cue out of last year's hit animation film"Big Hero 6."
They have named the latest Android OS "Marshmallow". White and fluffy, like Baymax.
Developers announced the news via a blog post: "Whether you like them straight out of the bag, roasted to a golden brown exterior with a molten center, or in fluff form, who doesn't like marshmallows?"
Fortune reported that this moniker is the latest to join the line of sweets tused to name the company's mobile operating systems.
Previous names included Lollipop, KitKat, JellyBean, Ice Cream Sandwich --- you get the idea.
Google knows its alphabet, although no, we're not talking about the mother company that now owns Google.
The Washington Post reported that the company accompanied the official naming by revealing a sweet statue on the lawn of its Mountain View, California headquarters.
Vice President of Engineering for Android Dave Burke posted a snap of the new Android statue via Twitter.
Unfortunately, Disney's Baymax is nowhere to be seen.
The Wall Street Journal reported that "Marshmallow" beat out other contenders such as milkshake, moon pie, malt balls, mocha, madeleine, macaroon, and even the most obvious, M&M.
However, there are few details that Google has offered regarding its latest system, and here are some of the things that we already know:
1) It will have a more coherent feel across different devices, making it easier to move between apps and the Web.
2) An improved voice control software is also expected.
3) A version of the Marshmallow is now available to developers, while Google is expected to roll out the new system by fall.
4) In a blog post the developers for Android M announced that despite the fluffly treat, their latest system is pretty hardcore with its system-wide support for a fingerprint scanner.
5) There is a platform change as well. Google is enhancing some of the permissions behavior by adding a Final Permissions User Interface.
6) Android Pit repprted that the Marshmallow will also include a Visual Voicemail service. Android Police said that T-Mobile and Orange France will be the only two carriers to support such function.
7) The most interesting feature, however, is the Auto Backup and Restore for apps. Used in conjunction with Google Drive, the Marshmallow will automatically backup app data and settings for file sizes 25MB or less.
What do you think of Marshmallow so far?
