Details for Microsoft's attempt at a smaller tablet have emerged ahead of a potential 2014 launch.
According to WPDang, the rumored "mini" version of the Surface tablet will have an 8-inch screen with 1080p display. The report comes after other sources claimed the tablet would sport an 8.3-inch or 7.5-inch screen whilst having 1080p display.
The WPDang report continued to note the Surface Mini may run on the Intel Bay Trail CPU with the Windows 8.1 operating system.
An ARM variant of the miniature tablet may be planned as Microsoft may be implementing a Kinect-like feature to detect people's faces, hand movements, and more.
The tablet's release date is unknown as Microsoft has not confirmed the product but speculators have projected a first quarter debut in 2014.
The Surface Mini may be the first Microsoft tablet following the release of the second-generation 10.6-inch Surface tablets.
Microsoft launched two new tablets on Sept. 26, the Surface 2 and the Surface Pro 2. The two new tablets have major differences in the specifications category whilst maintaining the same 10.6-inch ClearType Full HD screen with 1,920x1080 pixels. The Surface 2 is available in fewer internal storage models than the Surface Pro 2. The Surface 2 has 32GB and 64GB models, while the Surface Pro 2 is available in 64GB, 128GB, 256GB and 512GB models, however, the latter Surface Pro 2 GB model will have limited quantities.
What do you think about the Surface Mini? What features should Microsoft consider for the tablet?
